I actually went to this high school some years ago. Just making a comment about some national news from a former local resident.
Arsenal Technical is a large outdoor type high school, often taking long amounts of time to walk between classes, as such, they do have security/police officers who roam the area.
It's situated on about 80 Acres of Land, so there's a lot of ground to cover.
However, looking into this situation...
It's really inexcusible that no authority (adult, teacher, staff, office) was unable to see this kid being harrassed. If he was indeed, surrounded previously, and feared for his safety, someone should have taken note of that.
You can see *most* of the open area in which students travel between buildings. And teachers also observe outside at times during passing periods. I can't imagine he would go out of his way to walk thru an area that wasn't well traveled.
There are a few, since it's a very large school (over 20 separate buildings) and more similar to a small urban community college layout than the single building high school.
Still, most fights and things of this nature were quickly detected by all, cause you can see large groups forming towards the interior of the grounds from all sides, windows of buildings, and so on.
I don't think he should be suspended. He didn't hurt anyone, and that wasn't his intention in bringing the stun gun to school.
It's more the responsibility of the administration. They need to recognize the school is large and just simply having officers/security is not going to cover everything.
Teachers do have free periods, and time between classes such that there should be a mandate to have a certain portion available to patrol areas.
