I was tuning in to the end of Bill Maher's show the other day and he brought up a very interesting point. The vast majority of the Founding Fathers the Tea Party so worships were Academic Elitists.

They truly believed that (right or wrong) they knew what was best for the people because they were learned, of the best quality, and unlike the King's before them they had genuine interest in the people. [I'm not saying they weren't self interested, or that they actually did have genuine interest, but they believed they did]

Anyway, it's something I hadn't thought about before.

They actually believed political power should be in the hands of the people who were smart, learned, etc. Not people who probably had a limited understanding of the issues. I.e. the common man.

Sorry, it's what they believed. Don't know where the Tea Party gets that the Founding Fathers stand on common ground with them.

CCArm

White male land owners were the only ones that counted and could vote.

Blacks were 3/5th of a person and women could not own property.

Ah, yes, they were so "of the people" LOL

Of course they were interested in themselves, and making sure they maintained authority, preserved their power, etc.

Not really what I am wanting to talk about here. But if you read these men, they did *truly* believe that they knew what was best for those around them not because of nobility, right of blood, religion, etc, etc. But because they were men of quality and that quality (in their minds, whether true or not, but they aptly demonstrated they embraced learning) they made by being learned.

I mean, read the notes of Jefferson about his daily routine?

He kept a diary for 50 years. His daily routine is almost unimaginable to me. He was an inventors, architect, spoke several languages, he traveled with pocket tools to make calculations, constantly take notes, read, read, read, daily exercise. From sunrise to late.

I'm sure the average stay at home Tea Partier can make similar claims.../sarc.
